This program, started in November 2011, blew me away with its ingenuity when I first heard about it. You get started with Topline by registering and downloading a browser extension or plugin. From there, you just surf. That’s it.
What the browser extension does is detect where ads are being displayed on web pages, and then puts one of Topline’s partner ads there instead. Basically, they shark ad space. I love it! It’s completely non-intrusive, and the capitalist in me has to give a silent nod of approval to their business model.
Instead of being an ad company which shares the wealth with the website, they figured out a way to display ads directly to you, the site visitor, and share the money with you. An odd phenomenon I noticed is that you’re also more likely to actually look at these ads.
Years of surfing have trained most of us to tune ads out subconsciously, but since the tiny blue ‘T’ logo in the upper right of an ad equates to possible points, and therefore money, I found myself actually looking to see how many ads, if any, were on every page I visited. I also started to remember specific ads and brands. So listen up advertisers: this is a more effective than usual method to advertise.
Keep in mind, it’s not going to be huge amounts of money you’re earning. You’re awarded points continuously as you surf. The exchange is 75 cents for 1000 points, and has stayed at that rate for a long time. Unless you’re doing some excessive surfing, you can realistically be looking at about $5-10 a month or so. Still, you do absolutely nothing different than you normally would, and get a little extra kaching from it.
Oh, and one final bonus: unlike many other sites that use PayPal to compensate you, they will pay the transfer fees for you instead of taking them out of your earnings. The only caveat is that you must have at least $10 to cash out whether you’re PayPal-ing or requesting a physical check.

Be sure to use the drop-down menu to enter your birthday, it protests if you manually enter the digits yourself. Also, if you use Chromium, you’ll be directed to a ‘Browser Not Supported’ page where you can simply download the regular Chrome extension, which works fine.
Update: I’ve been using TopLine for a few weeks now. Although, I have not earned enough for a payout yet, it’s difficult to feel disappointed by the program. I quite literally forget that it’s there, and it would honestly take more work to disable than to just leave running.
